CBD Oil Vs. Hemp Oil. What the Difference?

Here at The Owl Instinct, we understand that customers might get flabbergasted with all the information available on CBD, Hemp and Cannabis. One of the more common issues we see is understanding the distinction between Hemp oil and CBD oil.

This is why today we’re going to attempt to dispel all the myths about CBD oil and Hemp oil, and talk about the differences between them.

So let’s get started.

What is CBD Oil?

Cannabidiol or CBD, is a compound found in the marijuana/hemp plant. It is one of the major cannabinoids found within cannabis. You can get CBD from both the male (hemp) and female (marijuana) plant.

This is partly why people get confused with Hemp oil and CBD oil. If you can get CBD from both, wouldn’t hemp oil be CBD oil? While it is reasonable to conclude like this, the fact of the matter is that Hemp oil and CBD oil are completely different.

CBD Oil can be extracted from the Hemp plant. This is done by placing the raw plant material in a process that separates the essential oils from the plant itself. The extracted oil contains not only CBD, but also terpenes and other minor cannabinoids in the mix.

After the Raw CBD oil is extracted, it can go through further distillation techniques to either isolate the CBD compound or remove more unwanted elements.

What is Hemp Oil?

Hemp oil on the other hand comes from the seeds of the hemp plant. There is absolutely no CBD in hemp oil.

Usually, Hemp oil is meant for industrial applications or culinary applications. While hemp oil does have a lot of other beneficial elements in it, it is void of CBD. For instance, Hemp oil can have Omega-3s, Essential Fatty Acids, Protein and so forth.

This is why many people like to cook with hemp oil. However, hemp oil also goes far beyond culinary processes. This oil can be utilized as a base in a variety of industrial applications. For instance, paints and plastics, fuel and even lubricants can be created using hemp oil.

Why is it important to know the difference between CBD Oil and Hemp Oil?

For starters, if you listening to the news or researching the medical claims and feel that it's worth investigating, then you want CBD. Hemp oil would do absolutely nothing for you in terms of those claims, no matter how much you take.

Thus, if you see a product that says “Hemp oil” on it, know that you’re getting absolutely no CBD in the product. Some CBD products will say something like “Full Spectrum Hemp extract” which is different than “hemp oil”. In most cases, Hemp oil would also be labeled as “Hemp Seed Oil” which would indicate that the plant wasn’t used to create the oil, but rather the seeds.

For what do we use hemp oil then?

As we mentioned, Hemp oil has plenty of industrial and culinary applications. You can use hemp oil as a substitute to your cooking oil. You could even use it like WD-40 on rusted locks and so forth and it will help with the problem.

Hemp oil should be used like you would any other cooking oil. It’s just a healthier option than Soy based oil or Corn based oils.

It won’t give you CBD, but it still has plenty of other benefits.
